They generate employment and can help other small businesses in the area to grow when they partner with them to provide goods and services to customers. Local businesses often offer unique products and pay special attention to the needs and experiences of every customer. So how can you support local businesses and become a positive contributor to your community?

1) Search and Buy Local

Whenever you are planning to buy any item or service, first search or ask your friends or neighbors if there are any local stores in your area that sell that item. You can use 'Near Me' keywords along with your search term while searching on Google (such as 'spa near me', etc.). Another way is to just get out and tour your community and discover all the local stores that you may not know about.

2) Write Reviews and Show Your Love

After you have purchased a product or service, leave a review on Google, Facebook, or other sites. People rely on reviews while deciding where they want to buy or dine, and this can go a long way in helping local businesses attract new customers.

3) Sign up for their Email and/or Text Notifications

This is a great way to be in the know about what is going on with your favorite local businesses. You'll know about special promotions and new items first. Plus, this is just one more way to show local businesses that you are a fan and want to support them.

4) Buy and Give Gift Cards

Show your support for local businesses by buying their gift cards and gifting them to friends, family, and acquaintances. This spreads the word and draws in new customers who can then do the same for their contacts. Include a note with your gift to share what you like about the local spot. You may even consider purchasing a gift card for a charity event to offer your support to both.

5) Share on Your Social Networks

When you make a purchase from a local store, celebrate that moment by sharing it on your social network. Post a photo or video of you using the product and tell everyone about what you love about it. Follow their social channels too. If your favorite local place launches a new product, menu item, or service, you can share and comment and let others know about it too. Don't forget to hit the love button on their posts as well.
