How to make your small bathroom appear bigger

How to make your small bathroom appear bigger

Many of us have a bathroom in our home that we wish was larger. Of course, a small bathroom can be lower maintenance. At the same time, it can feel dark and claustrophobic. By making use of little visual tricks as well as a lot of creativity you can make it appear and feel bigger. While you may not be up for a full renovation (or it may not be in your budget), here are a few ideas to make your small bathroom seem bigger.

Carefully Choose Your Color

Choosing paints in a light color such as a subtle green, a soft blue, or pale neutrals can give the false impression of more space. Avoid the use of dark, shouting colors. Rather, use bright cool colors for your accessories. For your bathroom's background, it is best to opt for neutrals, pastel tones, and white colors.

Add More Floor Space

While it may not give you more room to walk, getting rid of your old vanity can make a remarkable difference in the way your bathroom appears. Most vanities possess cabinetry underneath, with drawers, doors etc. However, by replacing it with a pedestal style or floating vanity, you will be amazed at the appearance of your bathroom. A pedestal or floating vanity occupies very little (if any) floor space, and simultaneously adds classiness to your bathroom. Look for more compact storage options if needed.

Choosing Flooring

If you replace your vanity, you will probably need to replace your flooring. There are a lot of great waterproof laminate options if you like the wood look in your bathroom. If you prefer tile, a larger tile laid on a diagonal can make a room look larger. Again, lighter colors will work best in making the space seem larger.

Mirror On The Wall

If there is one item you need to get right in a small bathroom design, it is your choice of mirror. Mirrors can be very helpful in tricking the eye when used to make a small bathroom appear bigger. A larger, thinner mirror will reflect the light in the room. Furthermore, a taller mirror hung closer to the ceiling will create the false impression of a larger bathroom space.

Light Up Your Bathroom

Lighting up your room is another thing to consider, as it is also a great way to brighten a small room and makes it appear bigger. Using a distinctive light fixture that is recessed into your ceiling or having fixtures mounted above your sink will help make your bathroom appear brighter and more spacious.

Are you ready to give your small bathroom a facelift to make it feel more spacious and inviting? Little changes are all that is needed to make a big difference.
